The History of Civil Navigation on Lake Como

At the urging of Emperor Francis I, the Privileged Society for the Steam Boat Enterprise in the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia was established in Milan in 1825, headed by President Duke Carlo Visconti di Modrone.
In 1826, the steamship Lario became the first steamboat to sail on Lake Como.
